About the Opportunity

The Law Society is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Manager of Privacy, Records and Information Management to join our team in a hybrid work environment, in Vancouver, B.C.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role is responsible for leading the organization’s privacy, access to information, and records management functions, ensuring compliance with FIPPA and overseeing the development and effectiveness of related strategies, systems, and team performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Privacy, Records and Information Management (PRIM) team to ensure operational effectiveness and productivity
  • Overseeing compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and applicable records management standards
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining privacy, records, and information management policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Providing guidance, training, and advisory support to staff and leadership on privacy and records management practices
  • Managing access to information requests, privacy compliance matters, and records-related processes across the organization
  • Supporting and mentoring team members through hiring, coaching, performance management, and professional development
  • Overseeing electronic and physical records systems, including document management platforms and file storage solutions
  • Managing library resources, subscriptions, and vendor relationships with external partners
  • Coordinating digitization initiatives, including scanning projects and records modernization efforts
  • Leading disaster planning and risk mitigation strategies for legal archives and records
  • Preparing reports, budgets, and strategic plans related to privacy and records management for senior leadership
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers
About You

To qualify, experience ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) or equivalent legislation is required. You will also need a Master of Library Science, Master of Archival Studies, or Master of Library and Information Studies (or an equivalent combination of education and experience in records and information management). A minimum of 3 years’ experience in records management, ideally within a government, regulatory, or public sector environment, will also be essential. Prior experience managing staff in a dynamic and complex environment is an asset.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Education or certifications in privacy law or information privacy practices
  • Experience working within legal, regulatory, or post-secondary environments
  • Familiarity with document management systems such as OpenText/NetDocuments eDocs DM/RM and SharePoint
  • Strong technical proficiency across Microsoft Office and records management systems

You are a strong communicator with the ability to manage sensitive conversations, navigate conflict, and influence stakeholders with diplomacy. You bring a hands-on leadership style, balancing strategic oversight with a willingness to step in when needed, and have a natural ability to tailor your approach to different personalities and levels of experience. Your patience, sound judgment, and ability to build trust across the organization will be critical.
