About the Opportunity

Chu Cho Environmental is looking for a full-time Senior Fisheries Biologist based in Prince George, BC, with flexibility to work from home when not required in the office or field, depending on project needs.

Reporting to the General Manager, and working closely with the Fisheries team leadership, you will play a key role in advancing fisheries initiatives across northern British Columbia, ensuring strong relationships with Indigenous and regulatory partners, consistent on-time, on-budget delivery, and thoughtful alignment across a growing portfolio of projects.

In this position, you will oversee fisheries research, monitoring, and environmental consulting work from proposal development through field execution and final reporting, combining high-level technical review, data analysis, and documentation with strategic field oversight and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading fisheries projects from scope and proposal development through execution and final reporting
  • Implementing select fieldwork and overseeing staff delivering remote field programs
  • Managing data, completing statistical analyses, and translating results into clear recommendations for decision makers
  • Reviewing, quality-checking, and professionally signing off on fisheries assessments, monitoring programs, and reports
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate staff while strengthening internal processes, professionalism, and collaboration
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, regulators, project partners, and Tsay Keh Dene Nation citizens
  • Supporting business development by identifying opportunities, contributing to proposals, and strengthening client relationships
  • Planning, scheduling, and budgeting work to meet regulatory requirements, professional standards, and internal QA/QC

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a directly related discipline, along with 6+ years of progressive experience in fisheries science. You will demonstrate experience managing staffconducting remote fieldwork in challenging environments, and applying environmental legislationpermitting processesimpact assessment frameworks, and sustainability standards.

We recognize that strong fisheries professionals often follow varied career pathways. Experience gained through technical diplomas, hands-on field implementation rolesprovincial and federal government technical positions, graduate research such as an MSc, or consulting environments will all be considered, provided your background demonstrates both strong technical competence and applied project experience.

The following are required:

  • Registration as a Professional Biologist (RPBio) in good standing, or immediate eligibility for registration
  • A valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to remote monitoring sites, including multi-day trips during peak field seasons
  • Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and variable weather conditions

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Proficiency in study design, statistical analysis, modeling ecological relationships, and interpretation of complex ecological datasets
  • Demonstrated use of version control systems to manage technical documents and workflows
  • Experience in environmental consulting with project management as a primary responsibility
  • Advanced technical writing skills, including report preparation, review, and quality assurance
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing fisheries field programs in remote environments
  • Experience mentoring and supervising junior and intermediate biologists
  • Familiarity with northern BC aquatic ecosystems and related regulatory frameworks
  • Experience working with First Nations governments or Indigenous-owned organizations
  • Certifications such as Electrofishing, Swiftwater Rescue, or SVOP, or comparable boating and whitewater experience
