About the Opportunity

Chu Cho Environmental is looking for a full-time Environmental Monitoring Specialist, Air Quality & Meteorology based in Prince George, BC, with flexibility to work from home when not required in the office or field.

Reporting to the Senior Environmental Scientist and Team Lead for Air Quality and Meteorology, you will play a key role in supporting environmental monitoring programs through field-based instrumentation work, data management, technical analysis, and reporting across northern British Columbia.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting meteorological and air quality monitoring equipment, managing and reviewing environmental data, and contributing to clear, high-quality technical reporting that supports long-term monitoring programs.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the deployment, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of meteorological and air quality monitoring equipment
  • Conducting field visits to monitoring sites to download data, assess equipment performance, and support ongoing operations
  • Assisting with troubleshooting instrumentation and data collection issues in the field and escalating complex issues as needed
  • Retrieving, organizing, and performing basic validation and interpretation of environmental monitoring data
  • Contributing to field trip summaries, technical memoranda, and annual or year-end monitoring reports
  • Supporting programming, configuration, or review of dataloggers and data systems using tools such as CRBasic, Python, or R
  • Maintaining organized records of field activities, equipment status, and datasets
  • Working collaboratively with technicians and internal teams while operating independently in remote and seasonal field conditions
About You

To qualify, you will need a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Environmental Science or a related technical or earth science field, along with 2–3+ years of relevant experience in environmental monitoring, instrumentation support, or a closely related technical role. A master’s degree (MSc) in a related discipline is considered a strong asset, particularly where it includes field-based research, data analysis, and technical reporting experienceA combination of education, practical experience, and field-based expertise will be considered.

The following are required:

  • A valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to remote monitoring sites, including multi-day trips during peak field seasons
  • Comfort working outdoors in all seasons and variable weather conditions

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Hands-on experience with meteorological or air quality monitoring equipment
  • Exposure to dataloggers and data acquisition systems such as Campbell Scientific (e.g., CR loggers, LoggerNet) or similar platforms
  • Strong technical writing and data analysis skills, with experience preparing field trip summaries, technical memoranda, and year-end monitoring reports
  • Familiarity with Onset dataloggers or comparable monitoring systems
  • Experience working with regulatory or near-regulatory air quality instrumentation, such as Beta Attenuation Monitors (BAMs), Met One instruments, or fenceline monitoring systems
  • Ability to retrieve, organize, and perform basic validation or interpretation of environmental monitoring data
  • Familiarity with at least one programming or data analysis language such as Python, CRBasic, or R, including the ability to read and make minor edits to existing code
  • Mechanical or electronic aptitude with a strong interest in troubleshooting and understanding monitoring instrumentation
  • Experience supporting long-term monitoring programs with both field-based and desktop components
