Junior Accountant

A very stable and successful multi-entity real estate finance company (mortgages, property management, real estate investments, etc.) that was established over 20 years ago. Many people stay with this company a long time due to the great culture and the job stability.
 
What- the Role:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is looking for a Junior Accountant. This is a newly created role due to ongoing company growth.  The Junior Accountant will work very closely with the VP Accounting & Finance, the Intermediate Accountant and the Controller (the last two were placed by SWIM).

The new Jr. Acct. will be responsible for accounts payable (much of it via EFT), accounts receivable, bank account and credit card reconciliations, managing various Excel spreadsheets, cheque runs, etc. These responsibilities are for the parent company as well as multiple entities that hold real estate assets, a mortgage investment corporation, a brokerage company, joint ventures, limited partnerships and associated holding companies.

With time the Accountant can get more and more exposure to the full-cycle of accounting, including supporting month-end/quarter-end/year-end, financial reporting, and budgeting. The Accountant will also get to see many lines of business involving property accounting, fund accounting, investment accounting, trust accounting, etc. SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.

Who- the Candidate:
We are looking for someone who wants to do good work for good people, and who wants to develop gradually over the years with a very stable, successful, and reputable Canadian organization. Candidates will have at least 1 year and ideally 2+ years of progressive accounting experience within a corporate environment.

• Qualified candidates for this role will have relevant post-secondary education. Enrolment in CPA program (early stages) is an asset.
• Experience working in any small yet complex and multi-entity professional services firm is highly preferred!  (i.e. firms providing services in property management, mortgage brokerage, accounting, wealth management & financial advice, architecture, law, etc.)
• We are looking for people who are excellent communicators (verbal & written) and who love working closely with a tight-knit team.  
• Strong computer skills are required, particularly using Excel. Hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop is highly preferred.  
• More important than anything else are the strengths and soft skills of the new Junior Accountant- we are looking for someone who is friendly, adaptable, detail-orientated, organized, reliable, curious, team-oriented, and passionate about producing high quality accounting work.

How Much:
Base salary is commensurate with accounting experience and education, likely in the range of $48,000 to $65,000. Plus health & dental benefits, paid vacation, relevant professional development support, and the aforementioned daily paid lunch program.
