Job Description
JUST HR is recruiting for a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Lead to support daily construction activities on a large-scale industrial project in British Columbia. This role is critical to ensuring that structural steel erection, concrete work, and other heavy construction tasks are executed safely and in compliance with provincial regulations. Working a rotational schedule at a remote site, the successful candidate will be a hands-on safety leader who collaborates with contractors and operations teams to uphold high safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Monitor construction activities daily, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with procedures
- Attend and contribute to shift handovers, safety meetings, and permit-to-work planning sessions
- Lead and participate in risk assessments and job safety analyses for critical activities
- Review and audit daily safety checklists, permits, and work execution in the field
- Inspect work areas for hazards, verify safety controls, and support ongoing safety improvements
- Coordinate with operations HSE staff to maintain alignment across departments
- Support incident investigations, reporting, and documentation
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior safety personnel and permit coordinators
- Ensure effective communication during shift and crew changes
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in health and safety within heavy industrial construction
- Experience with structural steel erection and concrete work is essential
- Proven understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly BC provincial legislation
- Previous work on large industrial projects in British Columbia is strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and risk management skills
- Able to thrive in a rotational, remote-site environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Preference will be given to candidates residing in or near Kamloops, BC
Remuneration
Hourly contract rate: $65–$85 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
