CUSTODIAN – CASUAL/ON CALL

Anticipated Schedule Coverage: 6:00 am to 2:00 pm OR 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Effective Immediately until June 30, 2026

 

Salary starts at $24.52 at Step 1, plus 16% in lieu of benefits.

Summary of Duties:

The Custodian is responsible for the performance of a variety of cleaning and minor tasks, in and around the assigned facility, in accordance with established procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • performs the full range of indoor and outdoor custodial duties as outlined in the Custodial Handbook using a variety of cleaning equipment.
  • operates a variety of custodial equipment including automatic floor scrubber, tuckerpole, electric upright lift, carpet extractor, brush cleaner, basic hand tools, etc. mixes appropriate chemicals/compounds for cleaning; stores, secures chemicals and equipment after shift.
  • performs minor maintenance duties (e.g. replaces switch cover plates, resets circuit breakers, changes lamps in fixtures, unplugs toilets and sinks, replaces furniture glides)
  • performs other comparable duties as assigned which are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completion of high school up to and including Grade 10
  • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Fire Safety Course
  • Self-starter with ability to organize daily tasks and work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (oral) skills
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties (including climbing ladders and scaffolds)

OR   an equivalent combination of training and experience

 

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification as Building Service Worker (Division I, III, IV) by Canadian Building Servicing Association
  • Previous experience in the maintenance of commercial or school buildings
  • Basic Computer Skills (e-mail)
  • Building Service Management Course
  • Training in building trades
