You are a passionate Aquatic Biologist who thrives both in the field and in a multidisciplinary technical environment. You enjoy contributing to impactful environmental projects, conducting aquatic ecosystem assessments, and collaborating with engineers, environmental scientists, and project managers to deliver high-quality work.
Your Impact
  • Conduct field surveys in freshwater and/or marine environments, including fish habitat assessments, aquatic fauna inventories, benthic sampling, water-quality measurements, and ecological classifications.
  • Prepare technical reports, baseline studies, and environmental impact assessment components related to aquatic environments.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across WSP, ensuring scientific rigor and operational efficiency in project delivery.
  • Support permitting processes and regulatory submissions to federal and provincial authorities, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).
  • Participate in compensation plan design, implementation, and monitoring for aquatic habitats.
  • Engage with internal and external clients to ensure their needs are well understood and integrated into project approaches.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative environmental solutions that balance infrastructure needs and ecosystem protection.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • University degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field with a focus on aquatic ecosystems.
  • Experience conducting fieldwork in aquatic or marine environments (freshwater, marine, coastal or riverine systems).
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to convey scientific data clearly and concisely.
  • Comfortable working autonomously in diverse and sometimes remote environments.
  • Eligibility for or membership in a recognized professional biological association (e.g., R.P.Bio.).
  • Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
  • Experience supporting DFO authorizations, baseline studies, or compensation plans development.
  • Expertise in marine ecosystems, oceanography, underwater acoustics, and certifications (e.g., small vessel operation, electrofishing, marine safety).

Compensation
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $80,800 - $107,000

MB & ON: $73,700 - $101,500

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $73,000 - $96,900
