Flytographer is transforming from a successful startup into a high-growth scale-up. We just closed our (oversubscribed!) seed round and we are hiring leaders to take us into our next chapter of explosive growth. We are one of the 50 fastest growing startups in Canada for the past two years as ranked by Canadian Business Magazine. We are looking for a technical leader to build on this growth and take our dev team and platform to the next level. As the VP of Engineering you will be responsible for executing the ambitious product roadmap and scale our Python-React powered application as we aggressively scale. The day-to-day responsibilities will initially be split evenly between hands-on contributions and managing the development team, but will change as the company scales up.
The VP of Engineering sits at the decision-making table with other executives and help us plot the direction of the company. They are responsible for delivering high-level technical insights to product stakeholders and overseeing the productivity and mentoring of the technical team.
Why this role? Why You?
One of Flytographer’s core values is experimentation and innovation in everything we do. This also applies to our team management and growth. You will be responsible for predicting staffing needs, writing job descriptions and interviewing new candidates as well as managing the people and processes that move the product through production to regular maintenance. You will provide performance feedback to your team and ensure that they continue to grow and meet their career objectives, and you will work closely with the team to review code and provide suggestions on best practices.
You’ll provide technical advice during requirements collection. You’ll liaise with the product and marketing team on projects, communicating their needs and managing the delivery dates of new features, new products and bug fixes. You’re responsible for setting expectations and communicating with all parties. You’ll work with the project managers to ensure that every voice has been heard and decisions are well documented.
We’re a small team (for now), so it is important that, as we grow, every member of the team contributes to coding new features in React and Python, including the VP of Engineering. You’ve organized your team so issues are fixed in a timely matter. You have the ability and desire to facilitate the development of your team. You can recognize and resource according to ability and strengths. You understand that a motivated, well-led team is one that creates stellar products.
