Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada's largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Reporting to theGeneral Supervisor,Training and Standards,the Training Supervisor,Haul Truck & Mine Utilityis responsible forleading the delivery and continuous improvement of training programs for haul truck, fuel truck, and mine utility operators. This role ensures alignment between workforce capability and operational requirements, driving performance through effective coaching, competency development, and standardization.

TheTraining Supervisor,Haul Truck & Mine Utilityplays a key role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence-ensuring that operators are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to consistently deliver high-performing results in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, modeling and enforcing safety standards, procedures, and behaviors across all training and onboarding activities within Mine Operations.
  • Promote a culture of safety and operational discipline among new and existing operators through consistent messaging and mentorship.
  • Ensure training programs incorporate critical safety content aligned with site-specific and regulatory requirements.

Training Program Oversight:
  • Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of training programs for haultruck, fueltruck, and mine utility operators.
  • Conduct classroom and field-based training sessions, ensuring competency development and adherence to operational standards.
  • Maintain training records, competency assessments, and progression tracking for all assigned operators.

Haul Truck & Mine Utility Training:
  • Deliver comprehensive training on haul truck operations, including pre-start inspections, safe operating practices, shutdown procedures, and haulage cycles.
  • Ensure operators understand dumping procedures, traffic management protocols, and emergency response actions, while reinforcing best practices for equipment care and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Provide instruction on mine utility tasks that support Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), including escorting personnel within Autonomous Operating Zones (AOZ) and safe interaction with autonomous systems.
  • Trainoperatorshandlingfailed Autonomous Mining Trucks (AMTs),operatingconventional haulage and ejector trucks, and transitioning AMTs between manual and autonomous modes.
  • Offer guidance on auxiliary duties such as AOZ signage installation, data collection (e.g., cables,berms), and other tasks essential for AHS operations.

Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement:
  • Monitor training effectiveness and operator performance toidentifygaps and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement initiatives that improve operator readiness, reduce variability, and enhance productivity.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Gr.12 or equivalent
  • Minimumfiveyears of open pit mining
  • ExperienceinoperatingAutonomous Haulage Systems
  • Knowledge of the B.C. Mines code
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong communication(both written and oral), organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strongcomputer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

Pay Range: CAD $108,000 - $133,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Working Conditions:
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
