Ballard has an exciting and immediate opportunity for a
Technical Writer to join our Customer Care team. You will collaborate cross-functionality with our engineering and field service teams to develop and deliver world class technical publications for new and existing product lines and markets. In addition to authoring and managing content, you will also contribute to modernizing our technical publishing processes in alignment with our broader Global Learning strategy. You will be passionate about quality, consistency, relevance, and value in the delivery of content to our target audiences. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and energetic self-starter with the ability to adapt and overcome the challenges of a fast-paced work environment.
Responsibilities: • Own and develop technical publishing deliverables for product lines and projects as assigned
• Contribute to the creation and standardization of publishing templates, guidelines, and processes
• Drive collaboration with SMEs to produce accurate conceptual and procedural technical content
• Ensure deliverables comply to required standards and guidelines for the target audience and market
• Work with graphic design resources to develop effective technical illustrations and visualizations
• Participate in and perform hands-on validation of maintenance and diagnostic procedures
Requirements: • Post-secondary diploma or degree in technical communication and or an engineering discipline
• Minimum 3+ years working as a technical communicator or writer
• Extensive experience writing maintenance documents such as manuals, user guides, and procedures
• Extensive knowledge of single-source authoring and content reuse techniques and methodologies
• Experience with language localization and translation
• Excellent written and spoken English communication and grammar skills
• Experience using XML authoring tools such as Paligo, MadCap, and Oxygen XML
• Experience with component content management systems (CCMS)
• Experience in multi-channel publishing, specifically PDF and HTML5 outputs
• Experience creating technical illustrations, graphics, and visualizations is desirable
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks and or Creo Parametric is desirable
• Hands-on maintenance experience is desirable
