About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 4 days on / 3 days off schedule. 

Reporting to the Superintendent, Tailings Storage Facility, the TSF Senior Geotechnical Engineer will assume the role of TSF Qualified Person. They will also be also involved in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating various TSF activities at the Mount Milligan mine.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the TSF Qualified Person for the Mt. Milligan site in accordance with the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC (Code 10.4.2)
  • Managing all aspects of QA/QC for TSF construction
  • Monitoring TSF activities
  • Liaising with regulators and external stakeholders
  • Liaising with TSF Independent Technical Review Board (ITRB) on behalf of site
  • Managing TSF Engineer of Record consultants
  • Overseeing TSF water management infrastructure
About You

To qualify, you must have 10+ years of geotechnical professional experience with emphasis on TSF infrastructure, a Bachelor of Science in Civil, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering (concentration in Geotechnical), and be licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in BC. 

The following skills and experiences will also be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Experience with TSF design, construction, and monitoring
  • Experience with slope stability and seepage modeling software
  • Ability to lead geotechnical investigations such as drilling, field testing, and instrumentation
  • Experience in Dam Safety Inspection and Review
  • Knowledge of standards applicable to Geotechnical Engineering disciplines, with experience related to dams and dam safety
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team applying geotechnical engineering skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Superior interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and the capacity to work independently and in a team environment with people of all levels
  • Proven ability to manage competing demands while remaining flexible and able to empower others
  • Proven ability to make timely decisions based on analysis, experience and sound judgment
