Amazon Payment Services team is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Support Engineer who is passionate about operations excellence.
As a support Engineer in Payment Services, every day will bring new and exciting challenges on the job: • Provide support of incoming tickets, including extensive troubleshooting tasks, with responsibilities covering multiple product lines. • Work on operations and maintenance driven coding projects, primarily for Java based projects and AWS technologies. • Help measure the performance of our services and drive initiatives to increase availability, ensure security and reduce effort for recurring tasks. • Support software deployment in staging and production environments. • Develop tools to aid operations and maintenance. • Work with support team for handing-off or taking over active support issues and creating a team specific knowledge base and skill set.
Basic qualifications • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field • 2+ years overall development/technical support experience • Knowledge of the UNIX/Linux operating system • Knowledge of Java based technologies • Strong customer focus • Ability to juggle many tasks and projects in a fast-moving environment
Preferred qualifications • Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues. • Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence. • Experience in a 24/7 production environment is a plus. • Ability to retain composure under stressful conditions, communicates effectively with a wide array of individuals and gets the right things done.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 2+ year relevant work experience • 2 or more years' experience in software development • Computer Science fundamentals in OO design, data structures and algorithm design • Proficiency in a modern programming language such as C++ or Java
Preferred Qualifications • Strong, object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C++ and/or Java preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform) • Knowledge of Perl or other scripting languages a plus • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases • Experience in optimization mathematics (linear programming, nonlinear optimization) • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions • Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly • Previous technical internship(s) preferred • Graduate degree a plus • Strong written/spoken communication skills • Experience with system architecture/design • Experience with distributed systems operating in a scalable/high volume environment
