Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer (SQA)


Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, this position is responsible for controlling and managing product quality and the processes of suppliers. This position must ensure conformity of products in accordance to customer specifications and serve as an interface between the customer, the supplier, and the company.


Job Duties


Supplier Support and Development


Manage supplier quality during the production phase

  • analyze reported quality problems with supplier parts
  • compile corrective action reports for non-conformities
  • follow-up on the implementation of corrective actions
  • provide and report the quality metrics for supplier follow-up


Control and develop product quality and processes of suppliers

  • Continuous Improvement:
    • identify improvement potential in the supplier’s quality process
    • develop continuous quality improvement plans for the supplier’s manufacturing processes
    • implement and follow-up the continuous improvement program (QIP program) in co-operation with Procurement and Quality
    • together with Procurement and Quality management, identify key suppliers for continuous improvement
  • Auditing:
    • Perform system, process and product quality audits at suppliers
    • Compile audit reports and subsequent corrective action reports
    • Follow-up on the actions from audits
    • Perform follow-up audits


Support and manage the launch of new parts, projects, or new suppliers

  • establish the process of starting-up the manufacturing of new parts with suppliers and subcontractors
  • perform FAI (First Article Inspections)
  • monitor and manage quality performance during the start-up phase
  • follow the industrialization plan of the supplier for critical and major parts


Supplier Selection


Assess and evaluate the system and process quality of potential new suppliers in the supplier selection phase

  • perform system and process quality audits at potential new suppliers
  • support Procurement during the RFQ phase
  • compile audit reports and subsequent evaluation reports
  • follow-up on any actions from audits
  • perform follow-up evaluations



Profile, Know How, and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or other related field
  • At least 2 years’ relevant work experience, including experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience in a Quality role is preferred
  • Thorough technical knowledge in both products and processes/systems
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints and other customer specification documentation
  • Knowledge of quality and business systems
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact with senior management at suppliers
  • Sensitive to commercial and financial aspects
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple issues at one time
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimal direct supervision
  • Works well across all business functions
  • Must be open to and available for frequent travel, both domestic and international
