We’re looking for a Strategic Buyer to join our Procurement team. The Strategic Buyer is responsible for the planning, negotiating, ordering, and management of inventory. Work is performed under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager. This is a leadership role with a technical aspect to support New Product Introduction.

Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of active, planned and on hand inventory to ensure budget and schedule are maintained.
  • Responsible to the management of the company for ensuring the quality standards as set out in the company procedures are maintained. Ensure customer service activities are conducted within acceptable standards and practices. Make recommendations to management regarding improvements to production operations.
  • Responsible and accountable for accurate and detailed records for inventory and finished goods.
  • Responsible for issuance of materials from inventory and for the receipt of defective or excess materials back to inventory
  • Responsible for maintenance of all databases, reports related to purchasing and inventory
  • Forecasting and analysing demand
  • Create, monitor and track the purchase order process beginning with submitting the PO to the vendor and ending with the delivery of the goods to the customer
  • Management of inventory levels to ensure a Just-In-Time model is utilized in accordance with supplier terms and conditions. Maintaining optimum inventory levels and maintaining zero “out-of-stock”
  • Direct procurement of material, equipment and services for projects/inventory and preparing associated procurement status reports (i.e. purchases involving contractual negotiations). Negotiates, administers, & awards purchase orders for the acquisition of materials, supplies & services at the lowest cost consistent w/ considerations of quality, reliability of source & schedule requirements.
  • Liaise with program managers, marketing and contracts as required regarding shipments to customers.
  • Coordinate customs/traffic with various freight and customs brokers.
  • Assist in the qualification of vendors and the preparation, expansion and maintenance of approved supplier lists. Conduct and/or participate in supplier contract negotiations.
  • Assist in preparation of material cost estimates and procurement plans for proposals and tender quotations. Assist in preparation of budgets and cash flow analysis for material purchases. Assist in preparation of critical item lead-time reports.
  • Ensure that the system for purchasing/shipping/receiving is conducted within acceptable standards and practices. Make recommendations to management on improvements to purchasing operations.
  • Comply with Company policy for Quality Assurance and the established ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Supervision of Buyer (s) and Material Specialist team to ensure On-Time Deliveries are maintained
  • Liaise with Production to ensure material will be available to achieve deliverables.
  • Quality control of receiving inspection to ensure all defects are found before stocking in inventory.
  • Miscellaneous duties as required.


  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge in the procurement area equivalent to PMAC Pro-D Program Level III.
  • Must be familiar with computerized ERP Materials Management/Purchasing system.
  • Knowledge in Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certifications.
  • Must possess a high degree of motivation with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a high-energy environment with minimum supervision.

Ten (10) years of experience in an Industrial Purchasing/Electronics systems and manufacturing environment with a minimum 2 years Shipping/Receiving Customs experience.
