The TS/PMO team in T&PD has an opening for a Technology Solutions Project Manager to manage product development to fulfill the targets in the product development roadmap or fulfill the objectives of our strategic partners. This role will be focused overseeing the development of multiple systems for a specific customer (to be disclosed once signed), and directly interfacing with the customer.

A Technology Solutions Project Manager is a high-energy individual demonstrating strong project leadership skills, resourcefulness, proven technical capability, strong business acumen and outstanding communication skills. This individual will be responsible for managing multiple revenue projects in Ballard's Technology Solutions business platform.

  • Interfacing with one key customer and the Ballard organization to manage project deliverables for system, module, stack or component development programs and technology demonstrations
  • Planning for and controlling the project scope, schedule and budget following Ballard Project Management Office best practices and TPPM process through the entire project lifecycle
  • Forming high performance cross-functional teams at Ballard and with customers to develop quality product
  • Use critical thinking to make effective decisions to move project team forward with consideration of risk assessment and trade-off analyses
  • Preparing clear, concise project status reports with appropriate detail to broad stakeholder group including executive management, extended project team, functional managers and customer
  • Identify barriers to project execution, communicate issues, and work to minimize impact on schedule and budget
  • Identify and track risks and solution paths
  • Schedule design and build work for multiple projects, based on resource availability
  • Coordinate resources with functional managers
  • Responding to customer issues and seeking timely resolution to maintain customer satisfaction
  • Identifying and resolving conflicts efficiently to find an optimized solution for project
  • Other duties assigned as needed

  • Ideal candidate will have a well-rounded engineering/science background (bachelor's degree), with experience and knowledge across the Ballard technology product portfolio and typical markets
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in product development and management of projects requiring custom design and build of stacks and systems
  • Certified Project Management Professional or SCRUM Master
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or equivalent is an asset
  • Experience in one or more of electrical and mechanical integration of fuel cell systems, custom module hardware builds, integration of modules into system, BOP component and sub-system design, stack design and build, stack component and materials qualification
  • Experience of working directly with customers and/or government agencies
  • Experience in negotiations and conflict resolution
  • Ability to interface and work cooperatively across the organization
  • Solid understanding of engineering, operations, and commercial team functions and benefits these teams bring to the project.
  • Practical knowledge of product development and bringing a product from concept to serial production
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to interact frequently with individuals and groups for project planning, and a proven ability to communicate effectively with customers
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel up to once per quarter (once COVID restrictions are lifted)
