We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to join the Kinesis Data Firehose leadership team. This highly-motivated and passionate Software Development Manager will build and lead a team to build our next generation high performance purpose-built streaming data delivery service to solve real-time end-to-end delivery of data between hundreds of sinks and sources.

Amazon Kinesis services already operate at unprecedented scale, while upholding performance and durability requirements that our customers care about. You will lead the software development of large-scale distributed purpose built systems; in Java, C/C++ and other languages using open source technologies and Amazon proprietary technologies.
You will build, set the culture, and lead a group of highly talented engineers and builders. You excel at leading developers, and have a track record of building and growing strong engineering teams. You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with customers, technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe features/ capabilities, product strategy and influence technical decision-making.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field or comparable experience
  • 10+ years of experience building and managing distributed services
  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineering manager overseeing teams with large scope and impact


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of Kinesis, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Storm, or other streaming data platforms
  • Experience with systems engineering and operations of Internet services
  • Experience with open source contributions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with Agile engineering practices (continuous integration, TDD, etc.)
  • Experience managing rapidly growing teams, driving hiring, and managing employee careers
