Location of Position:

This position will be based in our Burnaby, BC office. 

The Opportunity:

Tantalus is looking for a talented Software Developer in Test to join our Product Development team. In this role you will be part of our communications platform team working collaboratively to produce quality firmware and software that connects our suite of devices, enabling our utility applications. 

Specifically, the Software Developer in Test will:

  • Work collaboratively with developers and product owners, contributing to design and planning of new features and products
  • Help to identify test strategy and produce test plans for new software releases
  • Develop our test automation framework to expand and enhance its capability
  • Help to find and fix issues early by improving our CI pipeline and development workflow
  • Develop new tests to increase coverage and verify acceptance criteria
  • Find and/or create new tools to enable exploratory testing
  • Effectively communicate test results with developers and product stakeholders 

You will leverage your experience with technology, software development, and test automation along with your exceptional problem-solving skills as you take a disciplined, structured approach to ensure the delivery of high-quality systems that are on-time and on-budget. 

You will work closely with engineering leads and product owners to dig into product requirements, extract the underlying acceptance criteria, and determine how to ensure product functionality and quality. You will develop automated tests and contribute to functional, integration, system, performance, and regression testing. You will effectively communicate your analysis in detail and back it up with data. 

You will develop a deep understanding of the inner workings of the product to identify and characterize defects and deficiencies. You will be comfortable bringing forward new methods and best practices that will help the overall testing program. 

You are passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions, and excited about contributing to the development of high-performance teams. You are comfortable working in and developing for Linux and are interested in networking, wired and wireless communications, and embedded systems. 

What you Bring:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar program
  • 3+- years’ related manual and automated testing experience within the technology industry or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux, Python and/or Perl, and Bash
  • Experience working with firmware running on embedded devices
  • Working experience with the Agile development process
  • Prior experience or knowledge of the following are an asset:
    • embedded software
    • Oracle databases & SQL queries
    • Jira & Jenkins
    • git and GitLab or similar
    • data analysis and visualization
    • Test tools such as Selenium and TestLink
  • Strong estimation skills and proven ability to provide detailed & accurate estimates for testing and automation efforts
