Ballard's After Sales Support Team has a position available for a Service Engineer (E3) in our Burnaby facility.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with Product Engineering to develop, update and improve the troubleshooting guide to support the various Ballard products in the field
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for regional field service teams
  • Coordinate and liaise with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to develop containment (short term) and permanent corrective actions (long term) for customer issues
  • Develop PM (preventative maintenance) and CM (corrective maintenance) processes for servicing motive products utilizing PFMEA, Process Flow, Control Plan, and DFMEA tools (cascaded critical and significant characteristics)
  • Develop training material for field service technicians (regional teams), service providers, and customers
  • Provide design inputs and recommendations to the Product Engineering team to enhance existing and future product designs in terms of product serviceability.
  • Specify, procure, commission, and qualify any special equipment or tools required for servicing products in the field
  • Support product commissioning activities in the field to understand the integration of the different Ballard products and customer systems in the field
  • Identify areas for performance improvement within the after sales group

  • Degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering or a related field
  • minimum 5 years of directly related experience in an hands-on industrial/product development/ system testing setting
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations,
  • Knowledge of system control algorithm and control logic
  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams,
  • Good understanding of fuel cell system operation is considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Available for travel to customer sites periodically
