WSP Golder has a new opportunity for an Intermediate - Senior Level Social Scientist to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting team on a full-time basis based in Vancouver or Victoria. Our team of social scientists and engagement specialists works in Canada and internationally on environmental impact assessments, policy and program development, social management planning, sustainability initiatives, engagement, social due diligence, and third-party monitoring.

An overview of your role will include:

•Conducts technical work for socio-economic baseline and impact assessments as a component of environmental impact assessments for projects
•Supports or leads completion of socio-economic baseline and impact assessment reports
•Provides technical guidance and manages junior staff in secondary research and primary qualitative and quantitative data collection and field work, including working with Indigenous groups, stakeholders and the public
•Develops socio-economic mitigation and management plans for projects, to meet regulatory and corporate requirements and best practice, with a focus on local content and participation
•Prepares socio-economic study materials for project-related activities (e.g. regulatory, public and Indigenous groups' Information requests, open houses, technical working groups)
•Engages with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders and Indigenous groups
•Supports third party due diligence and compliance reviews
•Supports or leads project management
•Business development including proposals and marketing of socio-economic and engagement services
•Maintains existing and develops new client relationships
•Develops and implements health and safety plans
•Supervises and mentors more junior staff with respect to their technical professional development and career growth

Qualifications:

•Graduate (preferred) or Undergraduate degree in social science field (e.g. sociology, anthropology, geography, economics)
•Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience
•Experience conducting and leading teams in collection and analysis of primary economic and social data (such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and workshops)
•Familiar working within provincial and federal impact assessment regulatory frameworks
•Experience working on large projects involving multi-disciplinary teams
•Experience working with, and supporting consultation and engagement with Indigenous groups and public stakeholders
•Demonstrated project management experience
•Strong team player - ability to work with all levels of an organization
•Strong commitment to health and safety
•Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills
•Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to travel, valid class 5 driver's license
