Vancouver, BC
Full Time

AbCellera is a young, energetic, and rapidly growing biotech company with an amazing team that searches, decodes, and analyzes natural immune systems to find antibodies that its partners can develop into drugs to prevent and treat disease. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience relevant to the analytical and biophysical characterization of antibodies and/or other therapeutic proteins, to join our multidisciplinary team. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated and self-directed scientist, a team-player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment with multiple competing priorities, and above all, someone who can learn and grow with us. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Canada’s most innovative biotech companies and to contribute to our cutting-edge research on antibody engineering, advanced mammalian cell systems, and molecular research supporting the discovery of novel monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic use.

How you might spend your days:

  • Providing mentorship and leadership in analytical and biophysical characterization of antibodies and other protein therapeutics, including designing, planning and executing experiments, either independently or in collaboration with teammates
  • Developing high-throughput workflows for analytical and biophysical screening of antibody properties
  • Performing detailed characterization of antibody stability and developability including forced degradation, solubility and viscosity
  • Training and mentoring members of a dynamic team
  • Solving problems at a high level
  • Liaising with partners and communicating project updates and deliverables
  • Developing and implementing standard operating procedures
  • Organizing, supporting, and collaborating with team members to meet project deliverables and timelines

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You are a creative problem solver and fast learner who believes in team work to tackle the most challenging scientific problems
  • You are self-motivated and have the initiative and drive to meet goals under tight project timelines
  • You think critically, are curious and want to explore new technologies, opportunities and integrate automation to improve the antibody characterization workflow and process

Required qualifications and experience:

  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Structural Biology or related field with an additional 5+ years of industrial or postdoctoral experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the detailed analytical characterization of antibodies or other protein therapeutics using mass spectrometry, analytical chromatography (SEC, HIC, IEX), light scattering, CE-SDS, cIEF, or related techniques
  • Experience with antibody stability and developability assessment including both high throughput screening and detailed interrogation of physical and chemical stability risks
  • Experience with evaluating protein interactions and mechanism of action using SPR, BLI, ITC, ELISA, kinexa, AUC, or related assays is strongly preferred
  • Great interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Experience with automation would be an asset
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and interpret and communicate data in the context of broader project objectives
  • Excellent documentation, organizational and communication skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail
