General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.

Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype. 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief People & Culture Officer this new position will play a key role as a strategic partner in establishing and delivering all learning and development initiatives that will support the continuing growth and achievement of our global team. The Senior Manager, Learning & Development (Senior Manager) will set the vision for learning, development, and performance management at General Fusion, providing the roadmap to level up technical and leadership competencies across the organization by building future-focused and innovative approaches.  Delivering an exceptional learning and growth experience, the Senior Manager will contribute to enabling the development of a rapidly expanding and high performing global team.

As a critical member of the People & Culture team, the Senior Manager will collaborate with business leaders across the company to identify business and learning needs and deliver effective learning and performance-focused solutions. The Senior Manager will ensure that we have the right tools, technology, processes, and programs in place to support a culture of learning, development, career growth, performance management and continuous improvement.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishing the learning and development function based on a clear understanding of General Fusion’s corporate goals and team and individual learning and development needs
  • Overseeing the design and delivery of leadership development programs aimed at increasing leadership capability and impacting organizational effectiveness
  • Executing on all learning and development programs, including leadership, technical, career and incorporating best practices related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Ensuring training is sustainable and scalable by measuring and monitoring training through a clear assessment of need with trackable results to measure proficiency, expertise, on-the-job application, and connection to business results
  • Serving as the organizational thought leader on leadership development and capability building programs, staying current on literature, practices and networks in relevant fields including training and professional development, leadership development, leadership coaching, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
  • Creating a baseline for learning and development metrics, evaluating the success of all learning and development solutions and continuously evolving learning and development strategies for maximum organizational and participant impact
  • Ensuring a performance management process is in place that aligns with corporate goals, cultural values and employee career growth and development
  • Acting as a strategic advisor to internal business leaders and People & Culture Business Partners on learning and development needs and solutions
  • Fostering a positive team environment, driving empowerment, innovation, and a high level of engagement


  • Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Behaviour, Business Management, or related field
  • 10+ years directly related experience designing, delivering, and evolving effective learning and development programs
  • Experience leading continuous improvement programs, including leadership effectiveness and performance management
  • Proven experience conducting learning and development needs assessments
  • Experience designing and delivering learning and development initiatives in a global organization (including via in-person and e-learning platforms and practices)
  • Strong ability to integrate continuous learning and development with fun and engagement
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with a track record of building relationships with employees and vendors
  • Knowledge of contemporary practices in adult learning theory and educational curriculum development
