Ballard's Finance team has an opening for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Investor Relations Analyst. Reporting to the Vice President of Investor Relations (IR), this role will support executive management as well as manage relationships with external investors, analysts, and media communities by maintaining focus on development and dissemination of key strategic messages.

The successful candidate must have the ability to:
  • Understand and analyze capital market behaviours
  • Strongly contribute to institutional investor base understanding and analysis
  • Prepare corporate press releases and market updates, manage the approval and dissemination process, and communicate with media
  • Engage in, and support management in, investor and financial analyst discussions

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing annual Investor Relations (IR) plan, including investor targeting, key milestones and metrics for success
  • Conduct peer analysis on strategy, relative market performance, KPIs, etc.
  • Optimize and streamline processes of information sharing with technical groups, corporate planning, commercial and marketing teams
  • Collaborate with members of Senior Management to develop and maintain an overall financial messaging and communications strategy
  • Serve as a conduit to the investment community to manage the flow of financial and corporate information, ensuring messaging is timely, accurate, and transparent
  • Work with financial analysts
    • Work with covering analysts; maintain up to date summary of analyst projections and consensus numbers
    • Work with non-covering analysts to support investigation/due diligence activities
  • Assist in preparation of press releases and market updates
    • Draft these to ensure profile for commercial transactions and technical and operational milestones
    • Manage the press release and market update approval process internally and with external parties, as appropriate, and work with Marketing to issue these documents
  • Support VP, CFO, CEO -
    • For quarterly earnings calls, including management of 1-on-1 calls with covering analysts
    • During capital raise or other public market initiatives
    • Prepare quarterly reports for updates to the Board and Audit Committee
  • Manage calendars and coordinate participation and content, as appropriate, for: investor conferences; investor meetings (off-site, virtual, on-site); non-deal roadshows; Annual General Meetings; and Analyst Day events
  • Respond to inbound institutional and retail investor queries
  • Manage outreach and responses to journalists; undertake interviews personally or arrange for other appropriate corporate subject matter experts to undertake interviews
  • Maintain up-to-date investor presentation
  • Support preparation of the corporate Annual Report, AIF, and ESG reporting
  • Analyze industry developments and trends that affect Ballard's business
  • Establish and manage external support tools (e.g., Nasdaq Insight Service)
  • Ensure accuracy of investor information on the corporate website (with Marketing)
  • Ensure appropriate disclosure and communication with investors on ESG
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in business/commerce, economics, finance, or engineering. CPA/CFA/MBA/CBV an asset
  • 5-10 years relevant experience
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerBI, and CapitalIQ is an asset
  • Keen learner and an ability to deal with rapid pace in a dynamic environment
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills including an ability to synthesize, distill and articulate complex information into relevant content
  • Excellent analytical abilities, including an understanding of financial modeling techniques and valuation methods used by analysts and investors
  • Team player with ability to interface and work cooperatively across an organization with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Positive attitude toward complex challenges and problems and ability to deal with them in an open, objective, and flexible manner
  • High standards of ethical business and personal conduct
  • Second language is considered an asset (e.g., Mandarin, French, German, Spanish)
