The Ballard Finance Team has an opportunity for a Senior Corporate Accountant to be a key member of its Finance Team, leading Treasury-related responsibilities and assisting in its financial reporting requirements at the corporate head office in Burnaby. The position reports to the Director, Corporate Reporting and has the following responsibilities and requirements:

  • Providing various Treasury support including maintaining and acting on forward foreign exchange contracts, bank account maintenance, letter of credit preparation, etc.
  • Liaise with various banks and manage the administration, setup, and maintenance of Ballard's bank accounts and banking systems, including setup in Oracle ERP
  • Manage and maintain foreign exchange program and support reporting requirements
  • Interest analysis and recording of transactions
  • Researching and preparing accounting analysis memos in compliance with IFRS for accounting transactions, including, but not limited to complex revenue recognition transactions
  • Supporting the preparation of monthly consolidated results, quarterly & annual external financial statements (including note disclosures) and Management's Discussion & Analysis ("MD&A"), and other publicly disclosed documents
  • Completing detailed financial analysis of financial statement accounts
  • Ensure internal controls for responsible areas are performed in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley ("SOX")
  • Compiling and analyzing data to support financial analysis and reporting
  • Develop understanding and knowledge of Cash Management module in Oracle ERP
  • Helping to design and refine financial processes and financial reports with regards to new ERP implementation
  • Opportunities to work on other ad hoc and special projects, as needed


The ideal candidate has demonstrated strong technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical skills, and must be adaptable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and advanced Excel skills will round out the successful candidate.

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA - CA or CGA)
  • 5 years working experience in accounting
  • Public company reporting and experience with multi-currency companies is preferable
  • Strong technical accounting skills (IFRS), including experience researching and analyzing complex IFRS issues
  • Excellent analytical abilities, high attention to detail, and ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Takes ownership and is results-oriented, with a focus on quality
  • Strong software skills with both accounting systems and the Microsoft suite of products. Advanced Excel skills required. Experience with Oracle ERP is an asset.
