Position:              Senior Accountant

Job Status:          Regular Full Time

Location:             Burnaby, British Columbia Canada

Reports to:         Controller 

The Position:

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the inventory and cost sales cycle, equity accounting, preparation of monthly financial statements, and will have significant responsibility for preparation of quarterly financial statements.  The Company’s working environment fosters mentorship and ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventory and COGS cycle accounting – Ownership of the inventory and expense cycle: record inventory movement throughout the month in the inventory subledger and reconcile to physical counts; calculate and record value of work in progress and finished goods inventory; calculate and record cost of goods sold.
  • Weekly reporting – Maintain tracking system for labour hours; create and distribute weekly reports.
  • Month end – Record month end journal entries for inventory, cost of sales, project and share capital sections; prepare monthly financial statements and internal reporting package.
  • Quarter end – Coordinate the preparation of quarterly binder including leadsheets with supporting information; prepare inventory, share capital, revenue and expense sections; prepare and populate external financial statements and notes; prepare draft MD&A; roll forward news release tables.
  • Analysis – Prepare variance analysis against prior periods and budget.
  • Budgeting – Assist in the preparation of early stage budgets.
  • Equity accounting – Maintain records of stock option and restricted share units in Optrack and prepare and record monthly journal entries from Optrack.
  • Flexibility – Ability to assist with other duties as assigned and ad hoc office duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education – A post-secondary degree combined with a CPA designation.
  • Experience – A minimum of five years progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
  • Internal Controls over Financial Reporting – Knowledge of accounting systems and internal controls.
  • Technical – Strong working knowledge of inventory costing, cost accounting and equity accounting concepts.
  • Communication – Strong ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, with the ability to adapt content and style to various audiences.  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative working relationships among internal teams and external auditors.  French language skills would be an asset.
  • Characteristics – Positive, dedicated, self-driven, hard-working professional.  Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks – often under pressure with shifting priorities. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, under tight deadlines.  Have a great sense of humour.
  • Computer – Proficiency with Adobe and MS Office - including Word, Excel (e.g. Pivot tables, lookup functions), and PowerPoint.  Sage 50 experience would be an asset.
