Job Description

As a Research Technologist in Bioengineering you will be responsible for testing new and existing products, product components, competing products and platform technologies in the Research and Development (R&D) department.

This role involves optimizing and validating new procedures for preparing cells from tissue dissections for downstream applications such as cell separation and culture. You would be performing and troubleshooting experiments with the appropriate controls, conducting data analysis, maintaining accurate written records of laboratory procedures, regularly reporting results, contributing to the technical product documentation, literature reviews, and designing experiments with input from the supervisor. This role contributes to the general functioning of the R&D laboratory and conducts all lab work according to the company standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Regularly perform mouse dissections and prepare single-cell suspensions for flow cytometry.
  • Work independently and as part of a team testing novel equipment and products.
  • Perform experiments, data analysis, and document the experimental observations and calculations.
  • Troubleshoot standard experiments, review and report on the results.
  • Present the data at R&D data meetings, and provide the conclusions and the future plans with support from the supervisor.
  • Perform general laboratory procedures and duties as requested (e.g. maintain supplies and equipment, adhere to waste disposal and safety measures).
  • Support the Quality Management System (QMS) initiatives and adhere to the QMS requirements.
  • Occasional weekend work (Saturday and/or Sunday) may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • BSc in biomedical engineering, cell biology or related areas.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience performing laboratory experiments.
  • Experience performing mouse dissections is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the statistical analyses of biological data is an asset.
  • Knowledge of STEMCELL products and workflows is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Detail-oriented and proficient time management.
  • Team orientated, collaborative attitude is a must.
