Ballard's Quality Team has a position available for a
Quality Technologist, based in Burnaby, BC and reporting to the QC Team Lead. This person will be mainly responsible for conducting inspection audit activities of "make parts" (MEAs, plates, stacks, and modules). The role involves significant interaction with various departments, especially shop floor technicians, Team Leads, and the rest of the Quality team. The ability to work well under pressure is essential, as deadlines must be met. Effective communication skills are crucial. The successful candidate must also have excellent technical skills, understand basic MEA and plate design, be detail-oriented, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be a team player.
Responsibilities - Support Production Operators in following Work Instructions and adherence to Workmanship Standards
- Perform WIP (work in progress) audits on "make" parts (MEAs, plates, stacks, and modules)
- Participate in Management sign off and Gemba meetings
- Assist the Quality Team by posting Deviations and released CO's on CellNet
- Perform monthly LPA audits
- Assist the Quality Engineers with Clockspeed Projects
- Create NCRs when defective parts are observed on the floor
- Check data in DTS
- Create CoCs (Certificate of Conformance)
- Create templates using AutoCAD software
- Perform additional duties as assigned by team leader or Director of Quality
Requirements - An undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, or Technology is preferred
- Experience in inspection activities
- General quality background knowledge: basic understanding of measurement techniques, measurement systems analysis, inspection sampling plans, and quality tools
- Understanding of statistics as they apply to quality
- Must be able to quickly learn about and understand the technical issues and processes related to the quality issues
- Basic understanding of supply chain and operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clarity is required in all communications when explaining complex concepts to all levels of personnel
- Must be easy to work with (co-operative team player), yet able to work independently when required
- Strong record keeping and organizational skills
- Must be able to manage multiple issues simultaneously
- Must be able to work under pressure on timelines and act with a sense of urgency
- Knowledge of APQP concepts is preferred
- Knowledge of PEM fuel cells is beneficial but not required
- Basic understanding of Quality Tools preferred
