Ballard's Quality group has an immediate opening for a Quality Manager who will be leading and driving quality with the Project and Process teams to ensure effective development, transfer, and maintenance of products/processes throughout the product lifecycle by using Quality Engineering tools. Additionally, this individual will play active role in root cause investigations and validation of the corrective and/or preventative actions related to quality issues, including facing our customers and representing them internally.

The successful candidate will manage and develop a team of approximately 7 engineers, including one team member located in China. This position will be based in our Burnaby Head Office. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, exceptional team player and will manage activities within this group targeted to deliver high impact results.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Quality Director in developing and implementing a company culture that supports the overall business objectives and focuses on safety, quality, cost, schedule, delivery, continuous improvement, process and people
  • Prepare Quality Management and Safe Launch plans for the Project teams, and monitor progress towards goals
  • Build a high performing team by setting targets and performance measures for direct reports and ensuring their career progression plans are established and met
  • Drives identification of the root cause of quality issues and execution of product quality improvements through preventive or corrective actions
  • Provides support to manufacturing regarding change management, discrepant material and product qualifications
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts to gain product/process efficiencies by using lean Six sigma methodologies
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure Quality policies and procedures are maintained and updated as required

Qualifications
  • A strong technical background is required (e.g.: undergraduate degree in science or engineering)
  • Minimum of 5 years well-rounded progressive experience in product quality, design and/or manufacture. Automotive OEM or Tier-1 experience is a bonus.
  • Experience using APQP elements including PPAP, DFMEA and PFMEA and Control Plans
  • Strong background in Quality Engineering and/or Lean Six Sigma (ASQ Certified Quality Engineer and/or LSS Black Belt certification a plus) and usage of tools such as: 5S, Value Stream/Process Mapping, Kaizen, Shainin Red-X and/or other similar tools
  • Experience with ISO9001, ISO14001 and IATF16949 compliant integrated Quality Systems
  • Management system and audit experience (ISO Lead Auditor and/or ASQ Certified Quality Auditor, VDA6.3 auditor credentials are a plus)
