Role Overview

This role sits within Teck's Project Development Group and supports the delivery of studies and capital projects that enable the responsible production of metals essential to the energy transition. Working within a structured project governance framework and reporting to the Project Director, the role is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering a study, project, or defined area of a larger project within a technically complex environment.

The position leads project planning, engineering management, contractor management, safety performance, schedule and cost control, and quality assurance of an underground mine‑life-extension project. The role coordinates project specialists, contractors, consultants, functional groups, and operations teams to ensure effective execution and integration across the project, including management of operational interfaces where project work interacts with existing operations.

Success in this role requires principled project management, strong contractor leadership, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to safely deliver project outcomes within established project parameters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Directs all phases of underground decline development and construction, ensuring infrastructure delivery aligns with the long-term asset development and the life-of-mine plan.
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple phases of project studies and project execution.
  • Identifies and prioritizes activities affecting the project's critical path to maintain schedule alignment.
  • Applies understanding ofengineeringand non-engineering workflows toidentifygaps or bottlenecks and recommend adjustments that strengthen project execution.
  • Overseesunderground development contracts, applying commercial discipline to manage contractor performance, mitigate contractual risks, and resolve issues within established terms.
  • Provides supervisory leadership to discipline-level managers and project teams to support coordinated delivery of project work aligned with project objectives.
  • Communicates clearly with the project team and stakeholders, ensuring priorities, risks, success factors, and opportunities are understood.
  • Leads a collaborative project environment where teams deliver work aligned with project scope, schedule, quality, cost, and value expectations.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in project development and delivery.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of underground mining experience.
  • Experience in long hole open stoping construction and ramp-up preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading project management on major mining infrastructure projects, specifically project delivery and execution.
  • Demonstrated success leading and coordinating diverse teams, including both dedicated project staff and shared resources, to deliver project outcomes.
  • Experience working with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) preferred
  • Experience coordinating engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and operational stakeholders to deliver project outcomes aligned with scope, schedule, cost, and quality expectations.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and contractual frameworks used in major project delivery.
  • Experience delivering work within structured project governance frameworks
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable resource development.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey priorities, risks, and project objectives.
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgment when balancing project scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Adaptability and learning agility, including openness to feedback and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within project teams.

Pay Range: CAD $135,000 - $167,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
