About the Opportunity 

FWS is currently seeking a Process Engineer to join the team in Winnipeg on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will provide in-house expertise on the application of codes and standards to various internal and external stakeholders on a wide variety of projects. This can include research, interpretation, documentation, report writing and ongoing communications to provide advice and assist with finding proactive, innovative and timely solutions.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Maintaining detailed understanding of codes and standards applicable to FWS projects, including: building codes, energy codes, CSA standards, health & safety regulations and NFPA standards
  • Interpreting code requirements on new proposals and projects and identifying potential risks
  • Responding to inquiries on code issues throughout the life of the project
  • Maintaining a reference set of codes, standards and in-house best practices
  • Managing the development and committee review of FWS specifications
  • Reviewing client specifications
  • Writing technical reports and analysis to support design submissions
  • Investigating legislative, code and technical issues
  • Reviewing shop drawings for compliance
  • Participating in the development of engineering standards

To qualify for this role, you will have 10+ years of experience in construction engineering, planning and/or project management, preferably in a variety of fields (ag-industrial, industrial, commercial). A Certified Professional Engineering Designation is highly desirable as is the ability to research, interpret and summarize complex issues for technical and non-technical audiences. 

In addition, you will also demonstrate: 

  • An ability to learn general and technical information about various industries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Assertiveness, combined with a pro-active and cooperative approach
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to balance competing priorities
  • A self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision
  • The ability to work within a close team
  • Thrives in an ever-changing environment and possesses a strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent computer skills

This role is well suited to someone who is client-focused, has impeccable interpersonal skills, is adaptable under pressure and can manage projects containing a number of moving pieces.
