The City of Surrey is looking for an accomplished Planner looking to make an impact on the future growth of one of Canada's fastest growing municipalities. As a Planner 1 in Community Planning, you will be part of specialized, cohesive, and dynamic team of planners helping to guide growth in one of the most diverse cities in the province. You will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to undertake a wide range of work, with a focus on community engagement, policy development, land use planning.

Responsibilities
• Apply creativity and vision as you plan and guide public engagement campaigns and lead junior staff on the development of engagement materials, event participation, and the summarization of outcomes. • Collaborate on comprehensive policy planning, including an update to Surrey's Official Community Plan (OCP). • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal communication through engagement with residents, stakeholders and staff; and make presentations to Council, staff, committees and residents. • Demonstrate clear and concise professional writing through Corporate Reports and memos for council plan and policy documents and materials for public and stakeholder engagement. • Project coordination abilities, leading inter-disciplinary teams, managing consultants, and ensuring the timely coordination of strategic plans and processes. • An innovative and creative thinker that integrates multiple ideas and manages competing perspectives to support a thriving team environment. • Foundational knowledge of general planning principles, legislation, and regional frameworks as well as an understanding of related city plans and policies. Qualifications
• A Bachelor's Degree in Planning or in a related discipline with supplementary courses recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners as fulfilling the requirement for membership and 4 years of professional planning experience. OR • A Master's Degree in Planning or a related discipline and two (2) years' professional planning experience. • Prior experience with community engagement and policy development is considered a strong asset. • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is an asset. • A valid and unrestricted driver's license is a requirement.
