The Ballard People & Culture Team (recently re-branded from Human Resources) is searching for a dynamic professional for our People & Culture Manager for a 12-month maternity leave coverage.

  • Leads a small team of 3 People & Culture Business Partners to provide superior customer service to the Burnaby locations
  • Partner with the Product Development Engineering and People & Culture employee groups as well as the Ballard US office as dedicated People & Culture Business Partner
  • Collaborate with other members of the People & Culture Leadership team to develops strategic initiatives in line with agreed objectives and gains support of managers
  • Participate in program design sessions with Director of Talent Management to provide business level input on programs and project objectives to implement plans across the organization
  • Monitor the effectiveness of programs and initiatives through interacting with business groups and sharing feedback so appropriate corrective action can be taken
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of best practices, developments, and trends in specialist area
  • Keeps abreast of all changes to relevant legislation and communicates those changes and their application to staff
  • Maintains a sound general knowledge of a wide range of HR services including recruiting, terminating, performance management, training, compensation, and benefits, HRIS and employee relations
  • Implements standard and new processes, procedures, and training at the business level with groups
  • Supports HR specialists in gaining support of managers for organization-wide initiatives.
  • Attend bi-weekly Global People & Culture Leadership Team meetings

  • Bachelor's Degree in HR or in a relevant field
  • Minimum 8 years experience as a HR professional in progressively senior positions within the hi-tech and manufacturing industries
  • Minimum 3 years' experience leading and managing a team
  • CPHR Designation is a strong asset
  • Experience supporting senior executives as a dedicated HR Business Partner
  • Previous experience supporting business groups in the US (Oregon experience is a strong asset)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated with ability to meet deadlines independently and as part of a team
  • Desire to continue learning and improving skill sets
