The Ballard Finance team has an opening for an eager Junior-level Payroll & Benefits Coordinator in a very complex and fast-paced environment. The position requires an observant and detail-oriented personality with good problem-solving skills and a professional, customer service-oriented attitude. This role is extremely deadline-driven; therefore, strong time management skills will round out the successful candidate. This position offers a great opportunity for skill development in full-cycle payroll and benefits processing for our Canadian, US and international operations.


  • Assist with daily operational activities relating to the bi-weekly payroll and benefits of almost 800 employees & contractors in multiple companies in Canada, US & abroad (expats)
  • Weekly timecard collection
  • Assist with reconciliation of payroll and benefits related general ledger accounts
  • Prepare, maintain and organize employee files
  • General Payroll department support
  • Prepare a variety of reports and remittances for payroll & benefits vendors and government agencies (i.e. CRA, WCB, MSP)
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, employees and external agencies
  • Assist with the administration of the group RRSP and 401(K) plans
  • Develop and maintain internal systems and related controls, with respect to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and other external audit requirements
  • Assist on special projects as they relate to the payroll/benefits functions


The ideal candidate must be a team player with the ability to work independently and with a team and must be flexible and able to adapt quickly and under pressure in this dynamic, ever-changing environment, without sacrificing quality or accuracy.

  • Canadian Payroll Association certification new graduate or up to 3 years of experience with full-cycle Canadian payroll
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now would be considered an asset
  • An eagerness to learn and take ownership of time-sensitive processes
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented; must have excellent organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with all audiences, with a proven ability to handle internal and external customers and questions kindly and effectively
  • Advanced Excel skills and Experience with US Payroll, Benefits, 401k would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards Act and Canada Revenue Agency Taxation Rules
  • Experience with Oracle or other ERP system an asset
