We are currently accepting applications for an intermediate level Mechanical Technician to assist in the assembly and installation of beamline components for our new ARIEL facility and existing facilities like ISAC.  Your duties will include the precision alignment of components and the installation of various equipment types such as vacuum, compressed air, water and nuclear exhaust, magnets and stands. Specific responsibilities include:

  • General alignment and operations of alignment equipment such as Leica Laser Tracker
  • Maintenance and repair of beamline elements and vacuum and DI water systems
  • Providing experimental support to projects that involve the cyclotron, secondary channels, and mechanical systems


You will also be required to successfully complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.


As our ideal candidate, you have a solid understanding of mechanical systems and machinery and are eager to learn and become proficient with new technologies and equipment. Your other qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of 3D SolidWorks and 3D alignment using laser tracker technology
  • Mechanical assembly and basic machining skills
  • A basic knowledge of electromagnetic properties and an understanding of vacuum technology
  • A mechanical technology diploma and at least 3 years of relevant and practical experience after graduation, or the equivalent combination of experience and education


While not required, the following would be a definite asset to your application: knowledge or experience of proper techniques for working with radioactive beamline components; an understanding of the practical applications of cryogenics and vacuum technology; and experience using laser trackers.


Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
