MEA Process Engineer

Ballard's Advance Manufacturing Team has an opening for a Process Engineer. This position will be located at our Burnaby facility and is required to be on-site. The successful candidate will be supporting Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) production, as part of Ballard's Advanced Manufacturing team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead process development and production activities related to MEA manufacturing; optimize process for capacity, quality, safety, and cost
• Support Production team to ensure daily production schedule are met, including trouble shooting, documenting deviations and non-conformances
• Monitor and control process utilizing statistical tools and report out on process capability. Execute continuous improvement projects where needed
• Generate, maintain, and update engineering documentations, including specifications, process flow diagrams, control plans, checklists, FMEA, work instructions, training plan etc.
• Develop and import new manufacturing technologies where beneficial. Work with equipment suppliers to develop and commission new equipment
• Communicate technical information, including process capability, work-flow deviation, quality issues, yield and cycle time analysis, process know-how etc. to cross functional or management team on a regular basis

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 1-3 years of manufacturing or process development experience. Experience with manufacturing unit operations including spraying, mixing, coating, converting, laminating, etc. is an asset
• Strong observation, analytical and hands-on skills to troubleshoot process and quality-related issues is a must
• Excellent communication and people skills; strong team player with experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
• Experience with engineering practices such as Lean Six Sigma, FMEA, Design of Experiment, SPC, noise factor analysis, Kaizen, 5S, and others are an asset
• Working level experience with AutoCAD and understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is an asset
• Machine shop skills and ability to work hands on with machinery is considered an asset
• Professional Engineering designation (or eligibility) is an asset
