Due to a recent retirement, the Surrey School District 36 (District Facilities Centre) is seeking to fill the integral role of Manager Structural Department. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Structural Department Manager is responsible for the Carpentry, Roofing and Plumbing departments. Typical duties of this role include planning, managing and providing oversight for renovations, maintenance, installations and other projects across District sites. This key management role works closely with other District departments and outside agencies; provides exceptional leadership to the department’s staff, and acts in the capacity of an expert for District projects and initiatives related to Carpentry, Roofing and Plumbing.


Due to the complex technical nature of the Structural department the successful applicant must have extensive experience in the fields of Carpentry, Roofing, and Plumbing with a strong technical background. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively prioritize projects and problem-solve quickly are key requirements of this role. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership and initiative in previous work, and will have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also have knowledge of best practices, current trends in this field and extensive experience managing projects.


The ideal candidate for this position must possess:

  • A Red Seal trade qualification in a related trade and/or comparable education;
  • 5 years of relevant field experience in a multi-site organization;
  • Experience in facility maintenance;
  • Supervisory/leadership experience, ideally in a unionized organization;
  • Class 5 drivers licence;
  • Preference given to applicants with project management experience and/or education.


This position is based out of the District Facility Centre in the heart of Surrey. This exempt position offers a starting salary range of $77,910 to $82,780, with a top range of $97,388 commensurate with education and experience, plus an excellent benefits package including municipal pension.
