Overview

We're looking for a Manager IT, Enterprise Architecture to lead the development and evolution of WorkSafeBC's enterprise architecture practice and help shape the organization's future technology direction.

In this role, you'll align technology strategy with business priorities, establish a compelling enterprise technology vision, and guide the development of architecture principles, standards, patterns, and roadmaps. You'll lead a team of enterprise architects, strengthen architecture governance, and help ensure technology investments deliver measurable organizational value.

As a key leader within the Business Engagement Services Department, you'll build strong partnerships across business and technology teams, provide strategic guidance on complex enterprise decisions, and ensure architecture supports secure, reliable, maintainable, and interoperable solutions.

This is an opportunity to influence how enterprise architecture enables business transformation across a complex, predominantly custom-built technology environment.

How you'll make a difference

You'll help teams across WorkSafeBC solve problems, leverage technology, and plan new ways to service B.C. workers and employers.

Where you'll work

We serve the workers and employers across B.C., and we do that best when we're together. It's how we collaborate, learn from one another, and develop our people.

This role combines time in our offices with flexibility for remote work.

What you'll do

  • Assess the technology landscape, business capabilities, organizational priorities, and key pain points.
  • Identify reusable enterprise patterns and capabilities that improve interoperability, security, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Establish and evolve architecture principles, standards, reference models, roadmaps, templates, and operating practices.
  • Define measures that prioritize architecture initiatives, track progress, and demonstrate business value.
  • Translate complex architecture issues into clear recommendations that support executive understanding and decision-making.
  • Lead, organize, coach, recruit, and develop a high-performing team of enterprise architects.
  • Build strong partnerships across business and technology teams, ensuring early architecture involvement in strategy and investment decisions.
  • Lead architecture governance, including the Architecture Review Board, decision rights, exceptions, technical debt, dependencies, and enterprise risks.
  • Guide build, buy, reuse, integration, modernization, and retirement decisions while establishing guardrails for AI, cloud, Agile, DevOps, automation, and other emerging technologies.
  • Consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

Is this a good fit for you?

You will thrive in this role if you:
  • Connect organizational priorities to practical enterprise architecture direction.
  • Have led enterprise architects or senior technology professionals in complex organizations.
  • Can build, mature, and strengthen the credibility of an enterprise architecture practice.
  • Understand how to shape custom-built software into secure, reusable, maintainable, and interoperable capabilities.
  • Balance long-term technology strategy with immediate business priorities and delivery pressures.
  • Build trusted executive relationships and influences decisions without relying on formal authority.
  • Translate complex technical issues into clear business outcomes, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations.
  • Use architecture governance to enable timely, informed decision-making.
  • Lead change initiatives effectively across Agile, product, project, and DevOps environments.
  • Apply practical, evidence-based judgment to emerging technologies and demonstrates measurable enterprise architecture value.

Your background and experience
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, business technology management, or a related discipline.
  • At least eight years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, technology strategy, software architecture, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience leading enterprise architects, senior technical professionals, or multidisciplinary technology teams.
  • Experience developing enterprise technology strategies, target-state architectures, standards, capability models, and multi-year roadmaps.
  • Experience building or maturing an enterprise architecture practice and leading governance, standards, technical debt, and architectural risk management.
  • Experience guiding architecture in complex, custom-built software and modern delivery environments, supported by broad knowledge of applications, integration, data, cloud, cybersecurity, AI, and software engineering.
  • Strong executive partnership and communication skills, with the ability to resolve competing priorities, guide investment decisions, and demonstrate measurable enterprise value.

We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
