Job Description

Manager, Indigenous Advisory Services
Location: Remote, Vancouver
Salary: $100,000 – $120,000
Job Type: Full-Time, Remote/Hybrid

Overview
Our client, one of Canada’s fastest-growing financial advisory and accounting practices, is seeking an ambitious Manager, Indigenous Advisory Services to lead and scale their expanding Indigenous Services practice. Reporting directly to the practice leadership, you will act as a fractional controller running the day-to-day finance operations for Indigenous governments, economic development corporations, limited partnerships, and non-profit organizations across Canada. This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity combining high-impact community advisory with genuine schedule autonomy and remote flexibility.

What You’ll Do
  • Run a Disciplined Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead financial closes across a portfolio of Indigenous clients, including reconciliations, accruals, deferred revenue, capital assets, and journal entries.
  • Act as Fractional Controller: Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and cash management, stepping in hands-on to manage backlog cleanups and get prior-year records audit-ready.
  • Lead Audit Preparation & Funder Reporting: Build complete year-end audit files, clear PBC lists, coordinate with external auditors, and prepare specialized reporting for ISC, CIRNAC, FNHA, and other funding bodies.
  • Manage Multi-Entity & Fund Accounting: Maintain complex accounting across First Nations governments, economic development corporations, trusts, societies, and limited partnerships.
  • Design Internal Controls & Coach Staff: Establish practical financial policies and controls while reviewing the work of junior accountants, bookkeepers, and CPA students.
Qualifications
  • CPA Designation (CA, CGA, CMA) is required.
  • Public Practice & Controllership Background: Proven experience managing month-end close, year-end audit preparation, and controllership engagements (small-to-mid-size public practice or direct experience within a First Nation, Tribal Council, or Indigenous organization).
  • Technical & Framework Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of PSAS / ASNPO, fund accounting, and government funding agreement structures.
  • Cultural Competence & Relationship Focus: A respectful, relationship-based approach with an understanding of Indigenous histories, governance, and community protocols.
  • Systems & Adaptability: Experience with cloud accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage, Xero); familiarity with FMB Financial Administration Laws or audit experience with First Nations clients is a strong asset.
What’s In It For You
  • Competitive Compensation: Base salary of $100,000 – $120,000 based on experience.
  • 100% Remote Flexibility & True Balance: Work remotely from anywhere in Canada (with up to 3 days of travel per month) in an environment that protects personal time and treats overtime as a rare exception.
  • Uncapped Professional Growth: “No-Strings” Learning Fund covering 100% of CPA modules, annual dues, and professional development courses with no clawback policy.
  • Immediate Benefits: Full health, dental, vision, and parental-leave benefits starting on Day 1.
  • Ground-Floor Leadership: Direct exposure to practice leadership with high visibility as the national Indigenous Advisory group rapidly expands.
