General Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid.

Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power. Key performance requirements have been demonstrated at the system level, setting the stage for building a pre-commercial fusion power prototype. 

Position overview

Diagnostics are an important technology to assist in the development of Fusion devices. Often complex physics needs to be understood to extract information from a fusion chamber. This physics must be captured in a reliable robust device along with analytical algorithms and software to covert the signal into a physically meaningful parameter. A leader is needed who can manage a team of multidisciplinary engineers to design this measurement hardware. This manager will build the capabilities of the team to ensure that they have the necessary technical and operational skills to quicky and effectively engineer useful measurements systems. This manager will ensure that engineering best practices are continually improved. The manager will also develop a supply chain strategy and develop long term relationships with contract engineering firms and a series of equipment and part manufactures to extend the abilities and bandwidth of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of multidisciplinary engineers
  • Mentor and coach team in Project Management, Engineering and Technology Development best practices.
  • Ensure  the quality of the engineering performed by the team
  • Support Design Engineers when challenges arise.
  • Continually improve the supply chain by scouting for and developing partners.
  • Ensure all General Fusion Diagnostics projects are supported with the necessary resources according to company priorities
  • Work with Director to ensure adequate resourcing to support the needed plans


  • Degree in Engineering in a multidisciplinary field (Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems Engineering, Aerospace engineering or similar)
  • > 15 years experience in design and validation of complex technological systems.
  • At least 10 years of work in a commercial setting with engineering deliverables and new technology development
  • Proven team leadership for teams including both technical guidance of a team people growth and motivation
  • Knowledge of Engineering and Technology Development best practice.
