The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Lead Materials Engineer with a strong focus on materials performance, corrosion, and sustainability to work out of our office in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Lead Engineer will play a critical role in managing technical projects and client relationships while mentoring and developing junior engineers. Reporting to the Materials Engineering Group Leader, the Lead Engineer possesses a strong background in materials engineering, business development, and maintaining client relationships.
The Lead engineer is responsible for communicating deliverables, both orally and written, and providing technical advice to both internal staff and external clients. The Lead engineer possesses strong knowledge with regards to corrosion, cathodic protection, and physical metallurgy. The Lead engineer must be familiar with applicable CSA, AMPP, ASTM, AWS and other applicable Canadian and international Standards.

A day in the life:

Business Development:

•Procurement of work for materials engineering personnel including: metallurgical engineering, mechanical testing, corrosion analysis, forensic failure investigation, service life evaluation, protective coatings, and cathodic protection;
•Maintain involvement on various industry associations (CSA, AMPP, etc.) and undertake business development activities and initiatives such as conference attendance, technical committee involvement, and presentations.
•Initiate and/or assist other members of the Materials Team in business development and developing internal and external clients along with strong Client interaction; and
•Other duties as assigned/required by the Group Lead.

Engineering:

•Provision of materials consulting engineering services for sectors such as: industrial, commercial, municipal, highway, and residential projects for new construction and for assessment and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure;
•Remain highly active on project delivery and billable work;
•Materials degradation modelling;
•Cathodic protection system design and evaluation;
•Preparation of specifications and contract management related to materials, metallurgy, corrosion, protective coatings, and cathodic protection technology;
•Quality control of construction including inspection and testing of protective coatings and welding;
•Preparation and review of proposals and technical reports;
•Service life and durability evaluation; and
•Protective coatings system design and review.

What you'll bring to WSP ...

•A degree in a Materials Engineering discipline with a heavy focus on metallurgy, corrosion, and, cathodic protection);
•Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in the Materials Engineering field in Canada (experience in the Greater Vancouver area of BC considered a significant asset);
•Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision to achieve provided objectives;
•Demonstrated acumen with procurement of work and business development is necessary;
•Registered P. Eng. status with EGBC (or to be able to register shortly after hiring);
•Must hold a valid BC Driver's License;
•Strong technical, oral and written communication skills.
