The Opportunity:

WSP E&I Canada currently has an opportunity for a Junior/Intermediate Process Engineer in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Group, in British Columbia. The successful candidate will assist the Water/Wastewater Treatment Group with local and international industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment projects in a variety of industrial sectors including mining, oil and gas, petrochemical, food processing, and manufacturing.

You'll be expected to work on all phases of project execution under the guidance of experienced Project Managers and Senior Process Engineers. Projects may include field sampling programs and data collection, bench and pilot scale testing, feasibility studies, options evaluations, preliminary design, detailed design, plant commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting and operations support for both new and existing treatment plant facilities. You'll get to assist in the preparation of proposals, design calculations, process design drawings, cost estimates and reports.

A day in the life:

Typical project phases and tasks may entail the following:

•Field and laboratory work (sampling, bench and pilot-scale testing, site laboratory testing, operating plant and construction site visits).
•Design development of industrial and municipal water/wastewater treatment plants, including water/wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, design basis development, vendor equipment selection, preparation of material and energy balances, equipment lists, PFDs, P&IDs, plant layouts, detailed engineering drawings and specifications, cost estimates, construction inspections, and commissioning/startup.
•Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies including vendor and supplier discussions.
•Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases.
•Water and waste reduction audits that focus on source reduction and water recycling.
•Permitting and regulatory submittals.
•You will always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and take WSP's Life Saving rules to heart;

What you'll bring to WSP ...

•Undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from an accredited institution
•3 - 7 years of engineering experience since graduation
•Be currently located in BC (or willing to relocate to BC).
•Be a team player.
•Have strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
•Possess a robust common-sense approach to problem solving.
•Be self-motivated, proactive and have a commitment to achieving results.
•Eligible for licensure with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (P. Eng.).
•Possess a valid drivers license and be willing to travel for projects.

Additional desirable qualifications include:

•Water/wastewater treatment process engineering experience in industrial and municipal sectors.
•Experience performing laboratory testing, bench testing and pilot testing on wastewater treatment processes.
•Experience with a range of wastewater treatment processes including biological, physical-chemical, membrane, solids-liquids separation, ion exchange.
