Quester Tangent is seeking a Jr. Hardware Engineer reporting to the TrainWise Platform Lead.  The Jr. Hardware Engineer will work on a product line of audio, network, monitoring, and display products intended on transit operations. The position requires an individual with a broad interest in electronics including analog, digital and power supply design. This is a Jr position where some experience is necessary but most importantly is a sense of curiosity and a desire to learn.  The individual is part of a mature and multifunctional team of Hardware, Mechanical, Test, and Embedded SW designers.  Good communication is essential for this role to work efficiently together and maintaining project schedules and budgets.

This position will be adapted to meet the ability of the successful applicant.  An applicant with industry-proven training and experience will be given challenges and responsibilities to match their abilities.   Junior/intermediate-level applicants will receive the time and mentoring necessary to develop into the role.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Hardware design and review; including schematic capture and pcb layout
  • Creation and release of electronic bill of materials and pcb designs to manufacturing
  • Creation and execution of detailed HW test procedures

Required Education and Experience

  • Electrical/Computer Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Good overall understanding of DC power supply operation
  • Basic understanding of principles of EMI/EMC
  • Strong bench and HW debugging skills
  • Experience with Altium designer or similar package
  • Experience with common communication interfaces such as SPI and I2C
  • Driven, detailed, focused and efficient
  • Able to handle broad range of tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel and support in-field testing

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with circuit protection design methods
  • Specific experience with pcb layout for high speed and high-power circuits
  • Familiar with Hi-Speed Ethernet circuits and components
  • Experience with audio circuit design and testing
  • Basic experience with PCB prototyping, hand soldering, and mechanical assembly
