Job Description Summary

STEMCELL is looking for an IT Support Technician to join our IT Operations team. You will be responsible for day-to-day support of end-user IT equipment and cloud-based apps and tools used by STEMCELL staff. This is a varied role, including support of cloud apps and services like Google Workspaces, common end-user IT equipment (Windows, Apple iOS), and a chance to gain hands-on experience with cloud-based tools & platforms like AWS & Cisco Meraki.

A successful candidate for this role will possess a good understanding of common software and IT equipment, have strong independent troubleshooting and task-management skills, and have a passion for delivering consistent and excellent customer service. This is an on-site role based in our Vancouver headquarters and reports to the Manager, IT Operations.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a small team to receive, troubleshoot & resolve support requests from STEMCELL staff related to IT equipment & business applications. Take ownership for solving issues within our service levels, and escalate critical or recurring problems to senior staff.
  • Deploy & maintain IT equipment, including laptops/desktops, mobile devices, printers & audio-visual equipment.
  • Setup & decommission employee accounts, including setup and decommissioning of equipment and software.
  • Setup, maintain and update apps & software use by STEMCELL staff. This includes reviewing requests for new tools, and evaluating them alongside our Information Security team.
  • Use & keep our knowledge-base up-to-date with helpful self-service information for our team & STEMCELL staff.
  • Work with other members of the Information Systems team to keep STEMCELL's systems updated & secure. This includes working alongside the IS Security team to promote information security practices throughout STEMCELL to safeguard the company, employees and systems.
  • Join STEMCELL project teams to support facility expansion and corporate technology projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience in an IT or technical customer support role. Work or co-op experience in an Enterprise Service Desk role would be a strong advantage.
  • Degree or diploma in a technology-related discipline, or a mix of industry certifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft operating systems and deployment/support tools
  • Experience supporting web and cloud based IT systems & applications like Google or Office365. Certifications in this field are an asset.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues
  • Active interest in cyber security, and a motivation to learn about new technologies.
  • Enjoy working across a broad range of technologies, and with people from diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Strong task and time management skills accompanied by good judgment. This is a fast-paced role with competing priorities that requires initiative, self-direction and resilience.
  • Strong communication & customer service skills. You will work directly with STEMCELL staff to run and support apps/tools to meet their needs.
  • Show curiosity to seek new and better ways of doing things, and take initiative to see them through to completion
  • Work experience in a regulated industry like Life Sciences, Pharma or Finance would be an asset.
