Job Summary Bring your in-depth knowledge and experience with IT change control to this opportunityThe Information Systems Branch is responsible for providing strategic IM/IT leadership for the Justice and Public Safety Sector, and for the provision of IM/IT services to support our sector program areas and stakeholders. The office includes five main divisions: Client Services, Chief Technology Office, Delivery, Strategic Planning and Digital Transformation, Service Design and Architecture. Our clients deliver a broad range of programs across the sector including: Courts, Prosecutions, Legal Services, Corrections, Policing, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, Gaming, Road Safety, Coroners, Emergency Management and more.
The Information Systems Branch has two well established teams working toward a modernized Justice Sector: The ISB Architecture Team and the Delivery Division. This role will be integrated directly into the Delivery Division, but will also work closely with the ISB Architecture team. ISB is leading modernization through supporting application design refinement, as well as working on various modernization projects and prototypes. The Delivery Division is responsible for the cohesive delivery of a large portfolio of the sector's strategic IM/IT projects, specifically delivering the desired IM/IT outcomes to the business areas and citizens. A large segment of the portfolio is related to justice application modernization, for which our branch is leading a sector wide initiative to modernize much of the Sector's legacy IM/IT systems. This work includes promoting shared microservices, refactoring legacy elements using a Strangler Fig approach and the technical decomposition of legacy monolithic architectures. Modernization and Transformation is a key objective of both the Architect Team and the Delivery Division.
Day-to-day services include providing a leadership role in the Justice Application Modernization's portfolio implementing project governance, and collaborating with business areas, project teams, vendors, and central agencies to successfully deliver quality solutions. This includes an upfront role in ISB to ensure our internal approach supports the sector vision, that we work with adjacent sector projects on unified approaches, and integrate previous lessons learned with a focus on fostering the use of ISB's supported and repeatable technological solutions.
This specific role will integrate and consolidate enterprise/sectorial technical architectures and platforms in support of Ministry or government strategic and operational goals, specifically the goals of an overall modern enterprise architecture. The position is dedicated to helping lead modernization and transformation projects within the Justice Application Modernization portfolio that are concerned with the implementation of refactored or new infrastructures and services.
As a Solution Architect your role will be to guide the development of ministry IM/IT solutions in alignment with strategies and compliance with government standards and legislation for multiple business area clients both on premises and in the cloud. You will be involved in helping architect solutions for internal ministry staff and for citizens alike across the diverse set of business areas in the justice and public safety sector.
As a senior architect in the sector, you will be tasked with devising ways to efficiently and cost effectively share common services and technology components; to develop the ministry's architecture to enable application modernization and develop platform roadmaps to support operations and infrastructure planning and cloud migration activities; to develop playbooks to support application development and guide the delivery of projects and to identify solutions to technical problems and provide solution designs for technical staff and contractors to implement.
Job Requirements: - Degree, diploma, certification or equivalent in the computer science field. An equivalent combination of education and work experience in IM/IT may be considered.
- A minimum of (5) five years of related IM/IT work experience.
- Experience with application development projects using modern software development approaches including agile software development.
- Experience architecting multi-component solutions and integrating multiple solution components using APIs.
- Experience directing and providing technical advice to work teams or contractors.
Preference may be given to those applicants with:
- Experience modernizing complex legacy applications.
- Experience with Cloud-Native application development and associated technologies.
- Experience with any of the following: Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Dynamics, OpenShift and/or AWS.
- Experience with Oracle DB and Oracle Forms & ReportsExperience in a local, provincial, or federal government environment.
