Matter Here: work at Vancouver Island University. We are currently accepting applications for the role, Practical Nursing Instructor in our Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services (multiple positions).
Job Responsibilities:
As the Practical Nursing Instructor, you will be responsible for the delivery of theory, lab, and/or clinical courses within the Practical Nursing program at the Nanaimo and Cowichan campuses for the 2024/2025 academic year. View the online calendar for a complete listing of our courses.
The Practical Nursing Instructor will participate in wide variety of teaching and learning opportunities and contribute to departmental and faculty meetings and program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) in good standing; (required to teach theory courses);
- The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or its equivalent, completed or in progress, or a commitment to engage in the training (maximum two years to completion) from an accredited institution;
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an appropriately accredited institution with current practicing BC College of Nurses and Midwifes (BCCNM) in good standing. Faculty with this designation only are qualified to teach clinical and lab courses.
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of five years recent medical, surgical and gerontological nursing experience;
- Familiar with practice settings in Central Vancouver Island including community, gerontology and acute care;
- Responsive to a diverse student population;
- A solid understanding of the scope and role of LPNs in the Health Care System;
- Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology;
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
