Ballard's Manufacturing Engineering Team has two positions available for an
Industrial Engineer in our Burnaby facility. Our ideal candidate should have a track record completing continuous improvement projects, tracking improvement projects across cross functional teams, and proven Lean six sigma abilities. You will require a keen eye for identifying waste (Muda, Mura, and Muri) on the factory floor and in administrative processes and should possess a track record of creating new layouts for New Product Introductions, sourcing and optimizing equipment, including manufacturing documentation.
Key Responsibilities: - Ensure processes are optimized by utilizing Lean six sigma tools such as process flow maps, 5 Why analysis, design of experiment, measurement system analysis, capability studies, and statistical process control charts
- Support the production team to maximize daily Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets
- Analyze and communicate technical information, including process capability, yield, and cycle time analysis etc. to cross functional management team on a regular basis
- Execute on parallel continuous improvement projects and process changes
- Lead and participate in Kaizen events
- Review plant & equipment layout drawings, assembly drawings, test specifications, training plans and provide feedback to engineering/production teams including documentation
- Identify design improvements for DFMA and communicate effectively back to design teams
- Develop new and/or improve measurement methods for process and component validation
- Interface with product development and tooling designers to improving process capability and support the standardization of tooling measurement
- Create industrial engineering layouts for New Product Integration (NPI) with product, equipment requirements, and material location
- Review and manage the production equipment asset list
- Support to develop and create assembly manufacturing documentation (Build control plan, Process Flow Diagram, PFMEA, Work Instructions, etc.)
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 3-5 years of manufacturing or process development experience in high volume manufacturing company
- Professional Engineering designation/EIT is an asset
- Experience in automotive sector is desirable
- Ability to work hands-on with machinery is considered an asset
- Strong observation and analytical skills to troubleshoot process and quality-related issues
- Knowledge and experience with Operational Excellence practices such as Lean Six Sigma, MSA, GR&R, Value Stream Mapping, FMEA, Design of Experiments, SPC, root cause analysis, Kaizen, 5S, SMED
- Demonstrated ability to teach, present, and coach process performance improvement
- Knowledge of technical documentation related to manufacturing, including use of control plan, FMEA, process flow diagram, SOP, setup checklists, and equipment requirements
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, supported by strong data analysis skill (using Excel or other statistical software, such as Minitab), AutoCAD experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment
