FTS – Forest Technology Systems is looking for a talented Firmware Engineer to join our growing team. The Firmware Engineer is part of FTS’ talented engineering team that continues to drive environmental monitoring to the leading edge of the IoT revolution. This position will have the enviable opportunity of joining FTS’ talented, progressive team focused on designing and building the next generation of distributed monitoring systems and telemetry.

Specifically, this position will focus on:

  • Designing, implementing and verifying embedded code for data loggers, sensors and telemetry products;
  • Working within an agile development environment using modern build-and-release tools;
  • Collaborating with product validation to ensure systems are rugged, reliable, robust, and safe; and
  • Clearly communicating technical issues, planning changes, and resource constraints.

Do you bring experience building sensors, designing electronics, devising algorithms and implementing high-quality firmware?  Do you excel at working as a member of a like-minded team of professionals, and owning your results?  If so, please read on!

What else you bring:

  • B.Sc. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering of related discipline;
  • At least two years’ experience designing and implementing electronics and firmware for embedded systems;
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting capabilities;
  • Solid experience in C/C++ firmware development in a real-time environment;
  • Experience with the use of an RTOS and FSM design;
  • Experience with 8, 16 and 32 bit microprocessors such as MSP and ARM;
  • Experience using a modern IDE and debug tool chain such as IAR and Eclipse; and
  • Experience using modern workplace tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo/Jenkins, and Slack.

Ideally (but not absolutely required) you also bring:

  • Experience with environmental monitoring and sensing;
  • Experience with TCP/IP, 2G/3G/M2M wireless protocols including mesh networks; and/or
  • Experience with IoT messaging standards; and familiarity with satellite telemetry.
  • Experience with the use of embedded Linux;
