Role Overview

Reporting to the Lead, Finance Business Partner (FBP), the Financial Analyst is a vital member of the FBP team. This team partners with and supports various head office functions (such as the Projects Group, Exploration, etc.) and growth project teams to drive value creation through standardizing performance reporting and forward-looking insights and analysis. This involves streamlining budgeting and forecasting processes and performing financial analysis to reveal key issues and trends that help business leaders make informed, meaningful decisions for Teck.

This role is part of Teck's Finance team and will work closely with other Finance areas such as Accounting, Tax, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Treasury. The role blends financial modeling, reporting, and storytelling with strong relationship-building to influence outcomes and improve business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Support 3 Year Plan and Annual Budget processes, including maintaining standards and templates, supporting consolidation of inputs and preparing analysis and insights to support decisions made by senior management.
  • Perform monthly cost reviews with analysis against actuals, budget, and forecasts, including detailed variance insights.
  • Prepare quarterly forecast reports, including analysis of key changes in forecasts and assumptions, as well as analysis of financial performance versus plan.
  • Provide other supporting analysis to management regarding expected financial performance and sensitivity to changes in key profit drivers.
  • Prepare presentations and information packages to assist senior management in decision-making.
  • Support and perform finance reviews and endorsements of Appropriation Requests for capital projects.
  • Continuously develop a comprehensive understanding of Teck's operations and key development projects, as well as the commodities and metals mining industry more generally.
  • Focus on continuous improvement on all FBP processes, tools, reports, and products.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferable skills.
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A professional designation related to finance is preferred (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant), or Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Prior experience in the Mining sector will be considered an asset.
  • The ability to develop and interpret financial models with a robust understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs is required to promote quality decision-making.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and adept at working with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across Teck as well as external organizations.
  • A self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance and is able to work in an ambiguous environment with agility.
  • A student of the industry possesses or develops the background and expertise to contribute to commodity and industry-specific analysis both regionally and globally.
  • A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and embraces an approach centered on ongoing personal and professional growth.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and the Microsoft Suite, with the ability to embrace and leverage emerging technologies

Pay Range: CAD $83,000 - $103,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
