The role of the Finance Manager is to plan, direct and coordinate all the accounting operational functions and support the Director of Finance. This role will be a hybrid of working in the office and remotely at home.


  • Within 30 days:
    • Conduct one-on-one meetings with each direct report to gain a basic understanding of each member’s function and responsibilities.
    • Learn and be familiar with Finance operations key responsibilities
    • Learn and be familiar with Finance operations standard operating procedures
    • Train and become proficient using GP
    • Complete the first of 4 CEBS E-Learning Modules to become more familiar with the Group Benefits industry

    Within 60 days:
    • Lead weekly planner meetings with direct reports
    • Conduct one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders from other departments and entities to gain a basic understanding of interactions between the Finance operations team and other teams
    • Learn and be familiar with various key systems including WEBS and CRM
    • Complete the second of 4 CEBS E-Learning Modules

    Within 90 days:
    • Present an overview of the Finance operation team structure and key responsibilities to the Director of Finance
    • Complete a SWOT analysis of the Finance operation team
    • Gain a solid understanding at key reporting process including carrier reports, partner reports, internal stakeholder reports and license compliance requirements
    • Complete team quarterly objectives reviews by Dec 31/2020
    • Lead weekly planner meeting independently and team scrums
    • Complete the third of 4 CEBS E-Learning Modules

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all Finance operations day-to-day functions
  • Liaise with insurance carriers, partners, other key entity stakeholders to provide superior internal and external client experiences
  • Assess current Finance operations, offer recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes as needed (e.g. automation processes, IT projects)
  • Ensure timely review of monthly reports including accounts receivable, accounts payable, carrier reports, partners reports, internal reports, and license compliance
  • In conjunction with Director of Finance, assist with year-end financial statement audits
  • Hire, train and retain competent Finance staff

Education and Experience:
  • Professional accounting designation (Canadian CPA designation)
  • Group benefit experience an asset
  • Practical experience with GP an asset
  • Superior knowledge with Microsoft suite
  • 6+ years of combined accounting experience in public practice and/or industry
  • 3+ years people management experience
