Located within the Division of Student Affairs (Student Services), Assessment and Exam Invigilation Services (AEIS) operates as a revenue generating assessment centre for accommodated exams, pre-program assessments, and professional exam invigilation services. Our mission is to provide a technologically advanced, secure, and welcoming testing environment that supports test taker success and opens pathways to academic and career opportunities for the students we serve.

 

As the exam invigilator, you will be responsible for remote exam proctoring via Zoom for external institutions as well as for VIU students with exam accommodations requiring assistive technology set up and support. This role may also include in-person invigilation of paper-based exams and program assessments. You will be responsible for a variety of duties, including:

  • ensuring facilities are prepared and exam security is maintained
  • confirming identity of those taking the assessment/exam
  • taking attendance
  • responding to questions
  • organizing and filing assessment material, special equipment and other supplies
  • referring individuals to institutional resources as appropriate

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent.
  • Extensive, relevant experience with online and paper-based exam invigilation.
  • Minimum one-year recent relevant experience in a post-secondary environment.
  • Ability to accurately handle large volumes of time-sensitive, detailed information.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, adhere to guidelines, problem solve independently, adapt to changing priorities and provide diplomatic and informed client services.
  • Experience working with adult learners with disabilities, familiarity with assistive software such as Kurzweil, Dragon, and Read and Write.
  • Senior-level proficiency with the MS Office with emphasis on Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to deliver exams/assessments as per required guidelines and instructions.
  • Technical competency to troubleshoot basic computer issues where required.
