This position is responsible for driving, operating and light servicing of a medium sized excavator and performs routine construction and maintenance tasks and record keeping.


    • Digs ditches and trenches, lifts, loads and lowers equipment and materials into ditches and backfills excavations. • Moves equipment and materials around work site. • Operates Tandem truck. • Removes snow and ice from roads and parking lots using a truck. • Uses appropriate attachments/accessories as required. • Records information associated with the specific tasks carried out. • Completes pre-trip inspection of equipment including checking oil, fuel levels, tires, lights, lubricating and safety operations. Provides direction for those working with the equipment. • Assists crew members in performing their duties. • Keeps simple records. • Drives a City vehicle to and from job sites. • Responds to inquiries from the public. • Performs other job related duties as assigned.


You must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to operate a medium excavator with appropriate attachments and considerable knowledge of heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance and proper methods used in loading and unloading of heavy equipment for the purpose of transporting.
    • Completion of Grade 12. • Driving and operating experience on a medium excavator, tandem truck or similar equipment • Valid Class 3 BC Driver's License with air endorsement. • A safe driving record as per the City's pol icy.

Conditions of Employment

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
